FROM command in autocad

Is there a method to construct a line in a way that is similar to the FROM command in autocad?

Its been a while since I have used AutoCAD. Can you explain the "from" command?

You can input a distance, then the + symbol, then hit Enter, if you want a relative point in a positive direction (or - then Enter, for negative), if that's what you're after. Works with X, Y, Z and R co-ordinates, as well as angles.

it is like a base point from which you can specify an offset to locate the next point---

for instance--if i was drawing a line and wanted to stop it 5/8" from another line- i would click "from" and click the line i wanted as reference and type in 5/8"

i tried what you suggested and im not sure it's the same

You can use it the same way. When drawing your line, after selecting the start point hover your cursor at your reference point, type "R (value)-" then enter. This will stop the line whatever your value is short of the reference point. If you use + instead of - it will go beyond your reference.

Yes...

While drawing/editing the element, place the "User Origin" at the place where you want to "place from" and type-in the distance in the "Tracker".

Hint: Hold the "Alt"+"Shft" keys down and hover the mouse at the point you want the place the "User Origin".
