Pan with the Mouse

Is there a way to assign Control-Click, Option-Click operation to functions? I used to be able to in 8.1, but after upgrading recently to 12, all seems gone. I really liked being able to Pan with the mouse.

I read a post that holding down the scroll wheel and dragging would do it, but that doesn't work with the scroll wheel on my ergonomic 5 button mouse.

All would work if I could assign mouse clicks to operations. Am I missing something, or is this a another case of newer isn't always better?

To enable the pan function assign your scroll wheel to "Middle Click".

Just tried it, and now clicking the scroll wheel launches OSX Dashboard. Must be an OSX default.

Check your Exposé settings under System Preferences.

That was it. There is a Dashboard preference buried in the Expose System Preferences.

Pan using the scroll wheel works now. I am happy.
Thanks all.
