Vectorial Shadows in 3D Document

Arcadia

I can't find any settings to change the source of the shadows in the 3D document settings. Apparently shadows for 3D documents are seperate from the 3D window and changing the sun source in the 3D window doesn't seem to change the 3D doc at all. Anyone know how I can do this?

I believe you have to redefine the 3D Document based on the current settings of the 3D Viewpoint.
Think of the 3D Document as a View, meaning it has stored 3D settings that are retained no matter what you do in the 3D Viewpoint until you redefine it.

thats fine but you can't transfer the settings in the 3D document window to the 3D window so having created a 3D document you can never reproduce the settings in the 3D window.
Make redefining VERY difficult...

David, if you right click the 3D Document in the Project Map and choose Open Source View, isn't it what you are asking for?

Yes Laszlo, that is what I mean but it doesn't remember the sun settings which makes it unusable for a Sun Study ... its not consistent.

David, I think the Sun Settings are stored and restored correctly, however, there seems to be a trick.
In the Model Display panel of the 3D Document Settings Dialog, you have to set the Vectorial Sun Shadow field to something other than OFF. Otherwise it is giving you the phenomenon you described.

Sorry Laszlo, trick doesn't work. Go to any 3D doc, open the source view and you will see, hopefully, what you expect to see in the 3D window as far as the shadows are concerned. Now open the 3D projection settings/more sun the date there will will always show the last saved settings NOT the ones currently displayed. A rebuild will have no effect so the 3D window and this will not match the More Sun settings.
On Mactel of course ......
I can send you some incredibly boring screenshots if you like
