A virtual ground which could be displayed until the horizon.

A model needs context I can create a mesh as large as I want nonetheless I will never be able to match it with the horizon, a gap will always show up.
The workaround is to create a false terrain which is time consuming and will never extend to the horizon.
So with a "Virtual Ground" check box why not to display an infinite ground? It doesn't has to be recognized as other architectural elements, just to fill the surface with the possibility to apply a texture on the top.

Nonetheless I want a picture in background and not a plain color for the ground but at least one surface (texture).

Is this possible?

Not in the 3D window - just plain colour ground and sky.

In renders of the 3D window. you can place images in the background.
