Automatic Dimensioning of all nodes attributed to selected elements.

I appreciate there has been a similar request to this before, however this request is for something simpler:

Automatic dimensioning of all nodes attributed to the selection. The dimension line to be dropped at a single orientation (i.e. horizontally, vertically, or somewhere inbetween).

This would be particularly useful when dimensioning 2D elements in details. For example, brick coursing.

In the attached example, we had to click on 34 lines with the dimension tool (37 clicks in total). If automatic dimensioning was available this would be much faster. I.e. Select all the black lines (2 clicks), Select: Document/Annotation/Automatic Dimensioning/etc. (2 clicks), you're now back at your detail, set the orientation of your dimension line (1 click), drop the dimension line (1 click). 6 clicks and you're done.
