Black Backgrounds in Drawings on Layout

I used to use black backgrounds in my drawings, out of AutoCAD habit. I created a new "working" pen set with dark pens, and I've set my background to a light gray. All of my model views look great, but, and there's always a BUT... the layouts STILL have black boxes where text and symbols are opaque (set to pen -1), and the text edit box is still black. Augh!

However, I don't think I was ever able to do THIS before... when in a layout view, I can now activate the Grids and Background dialog. Even though I've set the background to light gray in model view, it still shows as black in the layout. AND THE COLOR SELECTION BOX IS GREYED OUT. It only lets me change the grid line color. Is this going to be stuck that way forever, since the layouts were created when the background was black? Even new layouts are stuck this way.

This also affects the text editing boxes in the Layouts. It's very hard to see black text on a black background.

I would like to see the layouts always treat the -1 "Background" pen as the paper color. This is the way it prints, so it should be the WYSIWYG appearance. Alternately, the Grids & Background box could be active in layouts, so you can set a custom color.
