shadow casting with internal rendering engine

I can't seem to cast any shadows in my 3d window. I have tried just about every combination of settings in my 3d window settings. The shadows work great on my elevations, so I assume the sun settings are correct...

Insights greatly appreciated!

Shadows in elevations and 3D are unrelated. Check in View > 3D View Mode > 3D Window Settings for settings to do with the live 3D window (OpenGL, hidden line, etc.) and Documentation > Creative Imaging > PhotoRendering Settings (which should just be called "Rendering Settings") for shadow settings in rendered images.

Thanks, but 3d window settings are correct as far as I can tell.

Also, I don't actually want to render (i.e. with the little camera button). I just want to see shadows in my 3D window.

My end goal is a quick shadow study.

Can you post a screenshot of what you are getting, and your 3D window settings?

Perhaps you are using OpenGL. The shadows only work with the internal engine.

It bears remembering that a simple rendering is often quicker than an internal engine analytical shadow-casted image.

Try Shaded mode instead of Hidden Line. In hidden line mode you can only get shadow contours.
