I wish that the dimension tool would stay ON after use.

Not quite. When we use the tool to measure somthing on the drawing, we often want to immediately measure another item. The measuring tool switches off after use and has to be reselected. It would be better if it stayed operational (ie ON) until the user selected another command.

I think the default is "M', no need to define it.

This is not tool, this is comand.
For commands its own rules, for tools - other.

In what cases are having difficulty?
Perhaps there are other ways. For example, the menu "Element Information"
