Roof-like End angle control for Beams.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could adjust the end angles of a beam just like roofs edges can. If you could ctrl-click two beams together and they would neatly join, it would work so much better than they do at the moment.

The picture below shows, in orange, how beams connect currently. The ends can only be vertical which means sloped beams don't join neatly.

The blue beam shows how this could look if you could adjust the angle of the ends. I faked this simple square section beam using the roof tool, but it would be good if we had a solution that used complex profiles as well.

Edit - I forgot to add that this would be seriously useful for facia and soffit boarding, and edge mouldings etc.

5... due to my thread from yesterday

Yes, this appears very simple to implement, and really essential, considering the Beams can have a complex profile.

Yes definately essential. Curved beams too pleassssse! I can't believe no one else designs buildings with curved beams.

Cheers,

This wish relates to any complex profile, whether it's used in beams, walls or columns, as well as the simple 'block' beam & column

Currently when a complex profile is applied to a beam, column or wall, it is "extruded" along the path of the beam/column/wall, but the end cut planes are always set at a vertical (for beams & walls) or horizontal (for columns)

This is fine if you only draw columns or beams that do not incline.
Each tool/object should have the ability to allow the user to control the angle of the end cut planes relative to the path.

Options could be:
  • Angle (input)
    Bisect adjacent
    Perpendicular
    Vertical/Horizontal
This would allow beams & columns with complex profiles (eg. steel) to intersect correctly (see images)
