Walking with vertical movement in 3d

Just wondering, is there a way to move vertically (elevator) while walking around the model, or should this probably be a Wish-list item? I'm thinking that it would be nice (if not yet available) to hold down shift/ctrl/whatever to also move vertically while moving though the model, or while standing still even. This would make it possible to climb stairs, ramps, terrain, etc.

So is it something that is hidden very well or just something that doesn't exist?

When walking forward, hold shift and you will rise.... if walking backwards, shift will decend you.. in PC anyway..
