Profile Problem

Hi all,

Anyone here a Profile expert?

When I creat a curve profile to a small radius the curve library object is fine. But whe I do the same to a Much larger radius, the library object does not follow the curve, it turns into 2 lines.

Anyone know what I mean and have solution to this wierd problem?
Please see attached

Thanks in Advance

the resolution of the element is fixed, so you actually see the number of facets it has when you enlarge it.

I think that profiles are GDL TUBE commands..... when making profiles, always start out big to get more facets in your object. Scale down, not up.....

The issue is likely the Magic Wand settings. (Tools>Magic Wand Settings). Try some different options and you should get better results.

Thanks Richard,

I have been playing with the Magic wand setting. Doesn'e not work still. I thought Magic Wand setting shouldn't effect the profiler tool. I normall adjust the Magics wand setting only for the dome roof.

Anyone here know for sure that this problem is a magic wand..?

Hi Dwight,

When I look at the profiler object in 3D, it is the same a 2D. Only a 2 straigh line object. It should be a Large Curve.

Thanks.

Pandy,
Please read this thread about Profiler.
http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=34429&highlight=profiler+resolution#34429

Profiler creates a 3D object and uses the Project2 command to
to display the 2D symbol. This means that the 2D symbol
does not use arcs, circles, splines, etc but literally shows the top view
of the 3D object.

All 3D objects in Archicad use equal lateral polygon segments
to approximate arcs. The number of segments is called the
resolution of the arc and is expressed as the number of
segments/facets in 360° of arc. The resolution of partial circles (arcs)
will match the resolution of a full circle of the same radius.
A quarter circle will have one quarter the number of segments
as a full circle of the same radius and resolution.

Therefor, if you have a very large radius arc and the arc
has a resolution of say 360 (having 360 straight segments) and you
are only looking at a very small part of it, say 2° of included angle,
you will see two straight segments with a small angle between them.
