predefined company standards vs templates

Anonymous
Not applicable
Can anyone tell me the advantages of loading "predefined company standards" at installation over say creating a template file with the desired chatacteristics and using this as the default template for new projects, any advice or suggestions always appreciated!

Thanks

These Installer options appeared in AC 9. If you have AC9, check the IMPROVED INSTALLER OPTIONS section in the New Features Guide.PDF file. There is detailed description about these options.

On AC12, there is the 02 AC 12 Getting Started.PDF file, which contains similar information under section Create Installation Package for Predefined Company Standards.

I think all that option does is copy a custom Work Environment and Template to the local machine.

The down side is that if you ever modify your company template, you would have to re-copy them to every individual machine. It usually easier to just keep your template on a central server.

According to GS:

With ArchiCAD 9 it is now possible for CAD Managers to create
office-standard installation packages. The installation will run
automatically without any interference from the user. The CAD
Manager can create User Profiles to be used office wide, complete
with User Preference Settings, Keyboard Shortcut Schemes,
customized menu structure, etc. He can set locations for special
folders, such as Temporary and Cache Folders and Template Folders.
He can create DXF-DWG Translators to be used office-wide. He can
set office libraries to be loaded from shared network locations.
Using all the above options, he can create a custom ArchiCAD Install
package for his office to use.

Too bad if you have a female CAD Manager I guess...

Cheers,
Link.

Just for me, the avid and perpetual English learner: Would you have to use "they" in this case instead of "he"?
The reason I am asking is because I wrote it, but don't tell anybody.

I'm sure they'd prefer 'Sir or Madam', but 'they' would work!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
We have a saying in Hungarian which translates into English something like this:
"A good priest learns till his dying day."
Same with me and English language.

It's grammatically correct to say "he or she". Since you are only referring to one person, "they" is incorrect.

A lot of people use "they" because it's less speaking/writing.
