Change WIREFRAME LAYERS in 3d to TRANSPARENT MATERIAL

I thoroughly enjoy viewing a model in what I've labeled "SECTION 3d" where all the framing is solid and all the architecture is WIREFRAME... But my models tend to be a bit confusing... So I am wishing that we could simply OVERRIDE ALL MATERIALS on these layers (as defined by layer combo "wireframe" switch) instead.

We should just be able to select an overriding material so we can create our own look.

I would rather add the third option as in Your wish, than change.

A transparent option being added to the choices would be good.
Rather than having to choose other materials perhaps it could just be a "sliding" button that fades the materials - same as the trace reference.

After posting this, I was using SKETCH UP and it has a function that makes everything "See Thru" but in their original colors... So much like the SLIDER effect described here.... I like that much BETTER!
