Furnishings rant (it's Friday!)

I know I know how can anyone compete with Google? But we're trying to run a practice here. We've been trying to get an aeron chair in acceptable ArchiCAd form for weeks now, on and off. I did find this

http://objectstop.com/?page_id=27&category=14&page_number=2

Looks promising, so OK, there's one. chair. out. of. thousands. to make our interior design models real.

Now we need a Steelcase i2i model and well, I'm just exhausted. I love AC but SketchUp *will* take over the world, and soon. I can't speak about the "dark side" (Revit) but if their access to real mfr systems is anything like SketchUps then we may as well throw in the towel.

Ha! Discuss. I'm just venting.

Did you check out this site ?
http://www.archibase.net/gdl

It's a bit slow to navigate, but its .gsm object archive (mostly free objects) seems truly enormous. I haven't had the patience to search through it all yet. And there may be some issue I haven't seen. Like that many .gsm objects are converted from .3ds , which often results in a large polygon count.

If you're on the Mac, you'll need Firefox for downloading. Their downloads don't work with Safari yet.

Shoulda looked here for your Aeron chair: http://www.archisolutions.com/Store/GDL-Free.html

Funny you should say that. We just got the latest version of sketchup pro (7) and their dynamic components are getting closer to GDL & Revit with every release.

I know it's not close to AC from an architecture stand point, but it's getting closer. Just imagine it in 5 years time? It's cheap (far less then AC or Revit) very open and it's made by Google who has some of the smartest/most innovative people on the planet. Scary if you are AC or Autodesk

PS i bought an Aeron about a year ago now and it was worth every cent! so comfortable & comes with a 12 year warranty

Good grief - sorry for being so grumpy up there. And THANKS for the links to two sites I wasn't aware of. I'll try out the chair, so to speak.

It's a holiday weekend in the US - enjoy!

I didn't realize Google knew anything about architecture.

Remember the late 50's sci-fi; The Blob?
It moves slow, but it's coming to get you!
Flash, News update, the Blob, (google) has taken
over the phone system.
Well sort of.
Have you tried 1800 Goog-411 yet?
Don't be scared, it won't hurt.

Didn't find the answer?
