I believe that you might control the fill direction by making a composite wall.
It asks you whether to orient the fill universally or for each wall.

You got it Dwight. You have to make a composite to align the fill orientation to the wall. I never have understood why this isn't an option for simple walls.

Thanks, Matt.
I know what you mean.

This is pretty ugly.

I use bitmaps all the time so it hardly matters to me.
The less my work looks like "drafting" the better.

I can hardly remember the last time I even saw the bitmaps. Version 5.1 perhaps? I did use bitmap fills for large areas of broken stone paving in 6.5 but either the computers and/or ArchiCAD have gotten fast enough that I haven't resorted that one in years either.

I might be tempted to use them again if the resolution were enough to include secret codes or subliminal messages. An 8x8 palette of one-bit pixels just cramps my creativity a bit too much.

Creative wall fills?
You need more sleep.

Just think of the possibilities Dwight. Translucent water fills, photographs of concrete, pictures of leprechauns laying bricks... Heck why not have animated fills! Who could sleep if they had such opportunities for creative expression.

leprechauns laying bricks..
They could never get in the union.

Or is this a line from the architect's version of the twelve days of Christmas?

Substituting for "and a partridge in a pear tree."

is:
…"and le-pre-cans lay-ing bricks."
