Insert from Character Map

I often need to approximate dimensions of an existing building by using a "plus-or-minus" sign. The Dimension Text Settings permit adding "+/-" to a custom dimension. Is there any way to add the more familiar "plus-or-minus" figure from the Character Map into this custom dimension text?

Open "Character Viewer" > Symbols > Mathematical Symbols > Plus-Minus Sign

Set the dimension's text to "custom"

Select the ± sign in Character Viewer and click "insert"

That work?

On a Mac, I open "Character Viewer" via a "keyboard" setting in the System Preferences or I open the viewer via the text tool.

I appreciate the answers to my question. Somehow I can't get to the first step, however. I tried several ways to find and open "Character Viewer" from within Windows and within AC12 with no luck. Maybe I need to clarify what I'm after. What I'd like to do is find a way to add the symbol directly after the dimension after selecting "custom dimension" in the panel that pops up when "Dimension Text Settings" is clicked. See screen shot. Where do I go from here?

I don't know how to open character Viewer on a PC. BUT, in ArchiCAD.. if you open the "text" tool. Do you get the option to "insert symbol"?
If I click that button, it opens the viewer. Leave it open, then go to the dimension text and insert the ± symbol.

Go have a nice cup of
