Sam thing here. ArchiCAD still works fine though, so I didn't worry about it. If you don't install the visual C++ redistrib on XP or Vista, ArchiCAD won't even start, so seeing as it works on 7, I assumed that it's already there.

Just tried AC12 on the Windows 7 RC and everything still works fine.
Seems significantly faster than the beta too.

Henry, do you know if you can go from XP direct to 7?

You can't in the RC and you won't be able to in the Final release either.
Upgrading is only supported from Vista.
I've never known an OS upgrade to go well(except in Linux), so I never do them myself. I usually reformat my Windows machines at least once very six months to clean out all the rubbish anyway.

Thanks Henry. I'll have to query Dell at some point about whether this machine is up to the 7 OS change. It''s only a year old and I was told I could install Vista, but chose not to.

Last week I read an article which said that there will be a killer feature in Windows 7: you can get Windows XP in it. It was something like that for an additional fee they give you Windows XP which will be able to run in Windows 7 or something like that.
So many people may upgrade to Windows 7 and then keep using Windows XP within it.

That sounds like a great idea! Way to go Microsoft! Where do I bend ov... I mean sign up for this?

I sure glad that, after 24 years on PC, I switched to Mac.

So far as I know, the "XP Mode" is going to be a free download for Ultimate and Business versions.
I really don't see what you would want it for though.

I give you an example: I could not install ArchiCAD 9 on Vista. However, there is a project we started in 2004 which we worked on in ArchiCAD 9. There were still modifications on it but it was not worth the effort to migrate it to 11 or 12. Also, Amyuni PDF driver does not work on Vista so you cant use in in AC 9 on Vista.
If this XP thing is true in Windows 7 then it is probable that previous versions of ArchiCAD will run well in that XP module. Which can be important to some (or many?) people.
