Complex Profiles slow down system???

Is it possible to make your complex profiles TOO complex and affect the performance of your computer? I made a detailed wall with blocking and studs and my regeneration time went to a crawl. I delete the blocking elements and it runs as expected.

Maybe they should have named it Not Too Complex Profile Manager!

Yes, very possible. Download the PolyCount goodie (via Help menu) to see what the polygon load for one wall is.

Note that voids in walls create polygons! If a void is present only to generate linework, fill the void with a solid fill and no polygons will be generated. I'm guessing this is the problem you're having with your blocking and studs...

You know the saying about screwing something in: Righty Tighty? With complex profiles, it is Tighty Righty or Gaps are Slaps (to performance). 😉

Cheers,
Karl

There may be another factor at play besides the poly-count. Walls, beams and columns (beams particularly) interact automatically with other elements. Increasing the complexity of these interactions can really slow ArchiCAD down.

One trick to cut this down is with intersection priorities in the layer settings. I've done quite a few large structural steel models with detailed beam and column profiles. It is very important to set the site mesh layers to a different intersection priority.

Both good tips! Thanks.
I have cleaned up my profiles and things seem to be much better!
