Or as modules.

Don't we need to be a little more explicit here ?
Clearly the author of this thread is new to AC.
If one wants to explain how to transfer a multi-story structure
from one project to another using the copy/paste
method one should say, start by showing all layers, select the
marque tool, set the marque tool to heavy marque,
swipe a marque rectangle around everything to
be copied and then "Copy" either with the menu command
or the key combination command+C. Open the project that
one wants the structure to be transferred to and "Paste".
If one is going to do this with the module method one should
be a little more explicit about how this is done.
Don't you agree gentlemen ? Especially when trying to help
a new user.

Monkey see, monkey do.

But you're right, we should be as helpful as time allows, despite the brevity of the question.

Cheers,
Link.

Hello Link,
I have noticed that new users questions are often very brief,
I suspect because, they do not know what information must
be supplied so that appropriate and adequate help can be given.
Another thing that is a little tough is trying to be explicit enough but
without being insulting by implying that the questioner is totally ignorant.

Yes and no.
We can assume tomeytos is a new user from the number of posts but it could simply be his/her first post after lurking the forum and/or using Archicad for some time.

The answers were brief but they give good answers to search for in the help/manual.
Should further help be required a more detailed question could be asked.
Like "how do I copy and paste?" or "how do I save a module?"
To answer a question like this in detail is really guesswork.
Your answer as helpful as it was is assuming a multistorey copy of all layers was required and not just a simple selection of objects in a single storey in certain layers. Also a rectangular marquee may not be sufficient - maybe an irregular shape is required.
Should we cover every possible option in our answer?

I'm not having a dig at your response as it was indeed accurate for what you wrote but it may not necessarily be what was required.
Maybe we should have just asked for more information - what is tomeytos trying to copy?

Also tomeytos makes no mention of the version of Archicad or operating system as required by the forum etiquette.
This can affect the answer supplied - Copy = Ctrl-C in windows and something different on a MAC.

I've probably confused tomeytos as a new user and he/she is probably wondering what in the world is going on.
So if you (or anyone needs more help then please feel free to ask again with as much detail as you can.

I can't speak for Link but though my answer was short it was not meant as a terse answer. E-mails and forum posts can so easily be taken in the wrong context.
I did mean it as a helpful response.

Hello Barry,
Everything you say is true. Especially when you said
"To answer a question like this in detail is really guesswork."
Indeed, this statement sums up the whole issue.
All any of us can do is give it our best guess or ask a question.
Thanks,
Peter Devlin

Add the communication in second, third or whatever language to the mix ...

But I agree with Barry - the questions is of the type where the answer can be practically anything, without knowing more details. As a matter of fact, most of the questions, especially from newer users, are like that. It is to be expected, because in order to ask the right question you have to know at least a part of the answer.
