Working with sections & interior elevations in 2D

I've generated some Interior elevations using the IE tool. In order to get the graphic level of detail I need, I'd like to use the elev that was generated as a starting point , and modify it, perhaps by adding and deleting lines & changing line weights. Is there a way to explode the view into 2D content? Ideally keeping the original IE as a referenced underlay.

If I want to use the IE as an underlay, what is the best way to do this, in terms of the navigator environment?

Thanks

Occasionally I will just select the 3D elements, copy to clipboard then paste back into the same view, but move the pasted elements an easy-to-remember distance to one side (eg. 10m). This leaves the modeled elements intact while giving you full control of 2D content, and modifications are easy to apply.

(love your sig, by the way )

Thanks, I gave your suggestions a try, and it seems to be working well.
