Krikey.
The extra RAM lets your machine create larger models without saving the 3D file to disk.

When ArchiCAD is forced to save to disk, a tedious and slow process called "swapping" occurs where the CPU is forced to switch the file bits around because the machine isn't "big" enough.

So RAM doesn't speed you up. It keeps you from slowing down.

See attached for the result I hoped for when I put more ram in my machine. Never happened.

so, on another topic, what do you think of the switch from powerPC to Intel for Apple? With this have any affect on the Unix performance advantage the Dual G5's have over PC's?

Advantage??? Marketing.
A year from now, the entire picture will have changed.

My prediction is:
-- that Apple will remain a build quality and visual style leader regardless of CPU,
-- that this is a GOOD THING for the Mac community because chips should get cheaper and we'll get the speed, especially in a laptop with Mac OS.
-- that Microsoft will die
-- that Steve Jobs will become King of Sony
-- that this fourth bump here near the back of your skull means that you will live long and prosper, but stay away from Bangkok. What an apt name for such a seedy place!

i can't let a comment like that pass without jumping in to defend the big BKK! bankgkok's full name is 'grungthep mahanakorn amorn rattanakosin mahinthara ayuttaya mahadilog pop noporat ratchatani burirom udom ratchaniwet mahasatahn amornpimahn awatansatit sakatattiya witsunugam prasit' which translates (almost) literally as 'city of angels'! and i'll bet it's far less seedy than it's younger namesake on the californian coast . . .
