Walls Not Wrapping Columns

Dave Jochum

I'm having trouble understanding when walls will wrap columns and when they will not. I've placed a column "by the book", i.e., composite wall w/ wrapping skins, chose wrapping before placing column, column touches wall core. While I can get many instances to work, others will not. Without going into more detail, is there something I should be taking into consideration that I haven't mentioned?

It seems I can't get a wall to wrap a column if the wall has more than one skin other than the core. The manual clearly shows wrapping with multiple skins.

What are the column and wall core fill materials? If they are the same, they will melt together. If not, the wrapping can be a problem.

Cores are the same. In every case, I can only get the skins to wrap if there is one wrapping skin plus the core. With two or more skins, they won't wrap.

Could you send a screen shot of what exactly happens, and what would you LIKE to happen?

Here is what happens with the 2-skin composite wall I want to use. The outer skin is stucco, the inner skin plywood/bldg. paper, the core wd. framing. The column has a plywd./bldg. paper skin with wd. frmg. core. (Sorry, the fills look horrible in this jpeg, but I think you can see what's going on.) "Like" shot to follow.

This is as close as I can come to what I want to happen. Note I have had to eliminate the plywd. skin. Column is the same as the previous "Bad" example.

Since nobody responded on this issue and I've not solved it myself, I'm asking once again for any ideas. Thanks!

Dave,
If I understand your problem you want to achieve something like the example that I am sending. Note that the wall core doesn't wrap the column, and that the column has no skin (sorry, my ArchiCAD copy is in spanish and i don't know the exact word). Is not necessary that the column core matches the wall core. I have no problems with this parameters and there is nothing more to take into consideration.

Maybe you can post a module to let us try.

I do know that layer intersection numbers can affect how a column merges with a wall. Keep that in mind. If they have different layer intersection numbers they won't merge. I'm at home right now so maybe that's not your problem.
