3d Document

Ok, I give up.
What’s the secrete combination to 3d Document?
I’m in 3d view (open GL) with shading on in View> 3d view mode.
I’ve think I’ve pressed every option and combination of
options in; (Document> 3d Document> 3d Document settings) to get 3d doc to be as 3d open GL view to no avail.
Even tried Internal Engine, (that’s ugly), and get wire frame there also.

I keep getting a wire frame for 3d Doc which of course I can change around, but that is not what I want.
Yet I think I’ve succeeded at this before?
Read page 192 in manual.
Searched AC help but I’m just not getting it.
Is there a combination lock(s) to this one I’ve somehow turned off?

Secret combination to achieve what?

If you want to create a rendering what you are looking for is 'Creative Imaging' option under the Document Menu. This you can save into a layout and it will update with changes to the Model. Just make sure that you disable the 'Auto Update' option once you placed the view on the Layout.

Thanks for responding.
It's not about rendering.
This is what I get as a 3d Document,
which is not what I'm after.

This is what I'm after as the capture
for a 3d Document.

ok…

right click on the 3D Document window and select settings. There you can specify shadows and materials.

the setting you want if I remember correctly is 'use own object materials'

Have tried that also,(once in the 3d Doc window) after creation of 3d Document, tried all settings, in every combo??
Actually, right click from main 3d window allows you to create 3d Document.
To get to settings: Document> 3d Document> 3d Document settings.
Been there over and over again. Tried every combo I can imagine, no
go.
ps;
I can change the colors of the wire frame(s) but even through as you can see the shaded options are selected, no shading.

Then what you want to do is save the 3D window using the "save view and place on layout" option from the right click menu.

lec:

You might try starting with the 3D Window set to Internal Engine & Shading rater than OpenGL & Shading, as I believe the 3D Document can use the Internal Engine settings, not the OpenGL. I don't know what is wrong with your 3D Document Selection Settings, I get an internal engine shaded view with these settings. I can see the grid of the 3D Document through the wall of the model in your last attachment, so I think there is some other setting at issue here, but I can't think of what it is.

lec,

The problem is not the 3D Document settings or the 3d Window settings.

It's the Model View Options. Make sure you don't have any fills set to override. Then make sure you save a Model View Options set with the 3D doc settings you want and use that one for all your 3D documents.

HTH.

Be prepared to be disappointed that you can't display textures though....

Thanks everyone.

But Chazz, you win the prize.

Turns out, at least on my W.S. the 3d Document will activate correctly
whether I’m in OGL or Infernal Engine.
The trick was Chazz’s “fill overrides (in my case, Cover Fill override) must be off in MVO”. Now have MVO preset for that.

At least in my case not all the fill overrides had to be off, just C.F.
I had played with fills a bit, but the view I was activating to get back to main
3d window was set for fill overrides, pretty dumb, yeh?
Amazing how much time I wasted on simple switch.
Thanks again everyone!
ps
At least here, whether ogl or infernal I get the same plain jane look.
At least it's not wireframe.
