a free compatible AutoCAD lite program

This company has a free version of a "fully" compatible Autocad lite

http://www.doublecad.com/

evaluating now, looks good enough. Although when you fill the form to apply for the software neither Archicad or Apple are options.

Thanks, Eduardo. Downloading now to try under Parallels. eDrawings on Mac side and DWG TrueView on Windows side have been great as free dwg viewers. But, something like that that can tweak a dwg will be handy.

Thanks,
Karl

I am running it under Win 7 using Fusion, for the record.
Shortcuts are different but it is behaving nicely.

Going off on a bit of a tangent - but for any other Mac users who do not have a Windows license or Parallels/Fusion but would like to try this and other Windows software...

Sun offers the open source VirtualBox virtual machine for running other OS's on your Mac (or on your PC):
http://www.virtualbox.org/

And, this article shows how to use it to download the free Windows 7 beta and install it:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/01/30/installing_windows_7_beta_on_a_mac_with_sun_virtualbox...

Completely unrelated to this thread - since Windows people can just install doublecad - VirtualBox runs on Windows as well for Windows people who want to try Windows 7 without affecting their computer:

A little belated feedback after playing with the free version for a few minutes the other day...

One thing I was hoping for was the ability to create AutoCAD text styles so that they could then be referenced in an ArchiCAD dwg translator to get better text translation ... but the Style Manager is not part of the free version, requires the $695 one. I can't blame them. 😉

Cheers,
Karl
