The new VBE addon (a reanimated version of Zermatt) is a very welcome and long awaited feature for ArchiCAD.
What would make it so much better is the ability to import your model from Artlantis Studio once it has been "tarted up" there to photo realistic levels for still renderings & movies etc.
Currently, most serious presentation work by ArchiCAD users is done in Artlantis. But since VBE viewer uses a model direct from ArchiCAD , we now have two presentation model sources that very quickly get out of sync. - the source for photorealistic still images & flythroughs is still via Artlantis, but the one for walk through exploration is only direct from ArchiCAD.
We need inter operability!
Another approach to address this might be to allow import of Artlantis model lighting, textures & extra geometry back into ArchiCAD - but ArchiCAD would have to massively upgrade it's rendering engine & texture handling for all information to be retained - so it would seem simpler to focus on VBE interoperability.
If the superior lighting, radiosity & textures etc added by Artlantis Studio could be harnessed as "baked on" textures in VBE, we would have a kick ass VBE product for our ArchiCAD models that no competitor could match!
