Snow Leopard

Just received notification that Snow Leopard is out on Friday.

This will be my first mac OS upgrade and I am wondering what is involved? Do I order it, or wait a month or more? Any tips?

Will I have to upgrade other software?
Go ahead, laugh at the newbie to mac

Just installed Snow Leopard on the laptop and can report that it works for me, and feels a bit snappier. I'll report back when I install it on the office computer, an older Core Duo iMac.

I installed snowy on a white 2ghz imac intel core duo. It crashes on startup. I'm on an educational version 12. I also just installed the wibukey and that didn't help. I'm not game to install it on the laptop until I'm sure all is good. Must have one version working somehwere!

Please fix Graphisoft. Or just release full 64bit archicad 13.

Please read,

if you have an edu version you don't need the Wibu Driver.

I don't know if this makes a difference to anyone about this, but if you install Snow Leopard via the custom install, you can install Quicktime 7 too, for any older needs. I was warned by a Mac service guy, to disable any auto sleep settings. His MacBook Pro fell asleep during install, woke up, finished installing, and screwed up some things up.. no backlit keyboard, screen viewing very dim.. etc. So, kill sleep before installing.

Snow Leopard install was flawless--didn't kill sleep prior or do anything else other than backing up. Opening apps for the first time takes longer than usual, but subsequent launches are zippy. A full day on AC found no problems, and most tasks are noticeably quicker. Only doing basic work right now--no rendering, etc. All is good.

I've searched for Apple's rationale for removing QTVR support from QT X and have not found anything. QT 7 can still be run to support QTVR, and any user opening a VR in QT X will be prompted to install QT 7 if it is not on their system....
Don't worry. No need to use Flash. Full explanation here:

Thanks, Thomas! Not sure why Apple could not have just come out and said that themselves, but a good and reassuring read.

Cheers,

i've found the rendering to be a bit quicker also. My favourite part is the "3 second" shut down, it's almost as fast as pulling the plug 😉

A word of warning: Our developers have identified a bug in Snow Leopard that may cause crash in ArchiCAD. The unpredictable nature of this bug causes that the crashes are infrequent, random, and unrelated to any specific user action. If you have not yet upgraded to 10.6, we recommend to wait until this problem is addressed by Apple. See details in the updated wiki article:
