You are not licensed to use the Free Version of SketchUp for production work therefore there is no reason to support DWG, since AutoCAD is a production tool.

If you are playing by the rules this is a non issue.

AFAIK the student and the University versions do export to DWG.

Hi, Ejrolon!

It's not about exporting but "importing" dwg's...

Their definition is that somebody who needs to import/export DWGs is not a "free user" since AutoCAD is not a consumer software package.

I for one would prefer to remove/minimize dwg/dxf/3ds (all owned or created by Autodesk) as data translators and IMO starting to use/emphasize Collada, IFC and FBX is a good start.

If you look at the link listed by TMA-80,
and look down about half way you will find this link to software supporting
Collada.

https://collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/Portal:Products_directory

At least in this list Autodesk is shown as supporting Collada but
Archicad is not listed.

Since this is all new to me, first; do we need support for Collada in AC?
If yes is G.S. working on it?
Is it a new file.extension? And if yes, what is it?

hi again !

just to comment a statement you made ejrolon

sketchup free can be used for commercial purpose ... (that's how you can export skp from the free version to archicad anyway 😉 ) , sure you won't have the export options and layout which are in the pro version....

from the sketchup website (talking about the free version):

"Google SketchUp is made available to you for personal or commercial use, and includes support via our SketchUp Help Center. You can also find answers, ask questions, and share your expertise on the Google SketchUp Help Group"

and from SU team

http://groups.google.com/group/SketchUp3d/browse_thread/thread/5cd47810b547f972

still, the dwg support is through a downloadable add-on ( limited in time ) with the new sketchup free 7.1...no more in the 8th version.
