ArchiCAD 13 Starts Shipping Today

Budapest, September 14, 2009 – GRAPHISOFT announced today that ArchiCAD® 13, the next version of its award-winning Virtual Building™ modeling solution, has started to ship on both Windows® and Macintosh® platforms today.

The International, German, US, Australian, New Zealand, French, Italian, Austrian, Hungarian, Finnish and Russian versions of ArchiCAD 13 are shipping this week.
Cough, cough...

Why not post the links to these versions? I only open the boxes sent to us when I need to get the disc out.

So Peter can be the first to tell us what it is really like!
I've only played with it for a day or so, but I can give you my initial thoughts and reactions!

Positives, in no particular order -
  • - The improved openGL 3d window display is really nice. It feels smoother to navigate, and looks clearer and much more professional.

    - There's a new pivot door and folding sliding Nanawall type door, which are great to see.

    - The annotate in schedule feature is great! I'll look forward to experimenting further with this.

    - The predefined steelwork custom profile feature is pretty cool. With a bit more thought, it could have been even better though. Ideally they should have given the option of pre-selecting the contour pen and edge material of the profiles before you import them. They should have also done one with timber profiles too, with a choice of standard 'metric' and 2x timbers, and also standard glulam beam sizes.

    - The improved edge angle and material control for slabs and roofs is a useful addition. Unfortunately only the top surface is represented on plan as before.

    - The 'soft insulation' feature seems to work really well. It basically forces the height of one 'unit' of the symbolic fill to fit the skin. It can actually be used with any symbolic fill so there's potential for various uses.
Negatives so far -
  • - I don't have a 64bit operating system so I can't test the 64bittyness.

    - I don't like the way the new GDL based Model View Options cannot be over-ridden for individual doors/windows.

    - The Int Elevs don't seem to work any better for odd shaped volumes.
I can't comment on TeamWork2 as I haven't tried it yet!

Conclusion - it's a decent upgrade and worth doing, especially if you work on big jobs with multiple people, but the same ol' problems that should be easy to fix are still there. I know they have been focusing on TW2 and 64bit for the past couple of years, but I would love to see the next release focus on fully realising the potential of the existing tools. Complex profiles and composites, zones and material application and material organisation immediately spring to mind.

I like the idea behind! One tool with regional preselection... GS may expand this thinking in the future, for example in library objects (regional specialities, use of language, ...).

Yes and no. Slab edge with 'complete freedom' ?! : input of a negative value is not possible and that's exactly what I need

oooops, maybe better to start a new topic with pro's and con's?

So when they said they start shipping they meant to the A/C localize HQ.
Another weekend without 13, I gone to the beach.

Joeri:

Could you explain further? The normal setting for the slab edge is 90˚ (vertical). Any setting between 1˚ - 89˚ cuts the edge back under the slab, any setting between 91˚ - 170˚ moves the cut out the opposite direction from the top of the slab. What sort of result do you expect with a negative number?

One man's paradise is another's hell.
It's sunny here in the BVI. We pray for the rains to come to fill up the cistern so we don't have to give the extra money to to water companies.
If you can catch the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE you can bring 13 when you come. LOL.... You are the lucky one.

CAN'T SOMEONE MAKE A DISC IMAGE (mac US version, I'll settle for INT version) PUT IT ON THEIR FTP SITE AND SEND ME THE LINK............

Sedley,

Getting the Disk Image will not help since you need to upgrade the Key and that information will be in the box.
