exporting to c4d

I think that I've tried just about all the various options and so far find the OBJ format to work the best. However, when I export by materials, which makes sense, ALL the AC geometry of that material comes in as ONE single polygon object in C4D. This is a major, major pain as there is no easy way to split all the polygons like the explode command in autocad...you have to do it polygon by polygon. What I would really like to see in the file transfer is all the polys of one material to come in under a single null object in C4D so that each part is easily accessed amd edited in C4D and yet comes in already "sorted" by material under the null object. This would save a lot of time. By the way, that is the way FormZ objects come in, except I used to do it by layers, but same concept.

Have I missed an option here somewhere that might work better? I did try the AC to C4D exchange plugin...and offhand can not remember the results as far as how the geometry came in.

Hi Peter,
sorry to highjack the thread, but since you seem to be the one to talk to regarding file exchange, would it be possible that someone at GS has a look at the ElectricImage export plugin.
What happens is that I've just (as in yesterday) upgraded my Quad G5 to a 8 core Macintel machine and the Intel version of the plugin doesn't work. The PPC version was fine.
What happens with the Intel version is that it flags all the normals to 0 (instead of 1) and the result is a fact file with no geometry. Fairly annoying to say the least.
Hopefully you can help with this.
Thank you in anticipation for your help.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I’m back, and the import module is finished! The most important features are the UVW map import and the layer import (the latter is quite slow in large projects). To make these, the ArchiCAD plugin had to be changed as well, the new plugin name is „ac4d+”. Everything is on my site: http://dinnye.neobase.hu with the source codes, of course. In case You find some errors or You would like to see new functions in the plugins, please write me, and I’ll try to fix them (time- and knowledge-dependent, sorry). The differences and similarities of the plugins are shown in the charts below. I’ve used the C4D internal commands for polygon optimalizition.

We certainly do! Great job. I haven't had a chance to try the updated plugin as I'm halfway through a job but if it's anything like the previous versions, it will be perfect. It makes you wonder about the work going on in Graphisoft. If there is any???
Once again, thank you!

Now with the release of ArchiCAD 13 and Cinema 11.5 let all hope that we don't have to wait some 12-14 months to get a working plug-in that does the job its meant to do.

I'm sure with the perfect timing (as they both release at the same time) means that they have been sitting down together for 12 months, working up the perfect export/import software that is so good it will get it's own release to a massive fanfare later this week...... or not?

For anyone that hasn't seen it. AC13/C4D 11 beta plugin

Haven't had a chance to test yet so can't comment as to whether it does all that things we have been waiting for.
