Trace ref XREF'ed DWG without attaching to empty storey

I'd like to be able to use a DWG file as trace reference without attaching it to an empty storey. OR i'd like to be able to send an XREF to front, for some reason it's always at the back, hiding behind my fills.

You can simply create a New Independent Worksheet and place the XRef there. Then use Trace Reference from that Worksheet. This avoids adding dummy stories to the project.

Also, with Trace Reference you can temporarily turn off Fills using a switch in the Trace and Reference palette. Then you can see the XRef behind your work. I find this works very nicely - much better than having the XRef in the same story or View. You have full control of visibility and can instantly turn off the XRef when you don't want to see it.
