Revisions Field in Autotext

Anonymous
Not applicable
I know something like this has been discussed before, but could we please, please have a field in Autotext called 'Revision' which gets added to the file name in publisher between the Layout number and the Layout name, so that the first revision of:

P_300 Plan.PDF

will be saved as:

P_300_A Plan.PDF

to eliminate the risk of the revised layout overwriting the previous issue.

Not difficult, surely. But so important for our practice, and, judging from the previous feedback, for many many others.

(Of course, it would be really nice if it could be linked to a revisions notes panel on the layout, but I guess that would be just too much to ask)

I'm talking about a revision note for each layout. Otherwise if you make one small change to one layout, you need to re-issue all the drawings under the new revision number. Not every drawing in a set has to have the same revision letter, espescially in construction documentation...

rwallis... the colour change depends on how archicad is treating me...

Achille, you beat me too it!..

Maybe I'm missing something here but if you want only certain layouts to show a different revision number, how is the software to know which ones?

Each layout would have a revision number, just as each layout has a layout number and a layout name.

The name of the published file would then be "layout number" + "revision number" + "layout name".

we will tell the software what to do...

Vistasp, did you see my photoshopped screenshot in the previous post. Just to have the option in the layout dialog box that allows automatic or manual numbering systems..

I seem to have missed that Warwick.

The GDL object that I use for title block in my layouts has a parameter for revision. I don't insert the object into the master layout but into individual sheets because I want the ability to override default autotext when necessary. That's just the way I work I guess.

In the absence of a revision field, what do you guys do? Modify the custom ID directly?

Yeah, I just have plain text on each layout.
Another advantage of it being assosciated with the layout is that you could then schedule it for the title page.

Yes, like Wokka, we use plain text for the revision number, and have to change the drawing number in each of the publisher sets which contain the layout in question - which is not only a pain but also open to error.

Still looking for a better way, and hoping against hope that Graphisoft might take notice.

Very disappointed this still isn't fixed in AC13. Publisher file names also need to be linked to the autotext
