Creating Guide Line Segment problem

Hi I assume this is a fairly basic problem but I'm having some trouble with the guide line segment tool. Just lately, it has stopped putting the correct coordinate point. For instance if I want to take a measurement of 1200mm from a wall to give me the relative position of my next element, I press shift and § (mac shortcut) and it gives me an arbitrary position of the marker. As all elements are relative to one another, this is causing me a big headache as I can't use the software properly.

Any help in resolving this is much appreciated. Thanks.

To clarify further sorry;

When I now drag the wall along an axis (or any other element) no distance mini dialog box appears with it. I'm thus stuck! Thanks!

Did you try re-applying your work environment?

I guess it has something to do with your tracker. Either it is set to polar coordinates or you switched off relative coordinates. Either way, you can restore it by resetting your Work Environment.
Go to Options/Work Environment/Work Environment ... Select the Work Environment Profiles and there choose Standard Profile and then Apply Schemes of Profile.
