layer settings dialog box

I am seeing something new and undocumented in my layer settings dialog box. Several layers are listed "below the line", with no 3D view display icon or intersection group. Does anyone know how this happens or what it means?

These layers were part of an imported DWG.

This is nothing new, you have attached an xref is all.

It is indeed documented in the Reference Manual (p1359) XREFs and Layer Structure.

a bit late reply, but:
If you click the little Filter button in the top right of the Dialog you can display or hide layers belonging to XRefs.
