Mesh Won't Split On Curves

I have a mesh that I'm trying to split along a polyline, but it doesn't work. I did a few experiments and found that the mesh will only split along a line. I did a two-segment polyline, and the mesh only split along one of the line segments. I tried the same thing with a slab and it had the same weird problem. Aren't these objects supposed to split along a polyline path? I swear I saw somebody split site terrain in an effort to show roads and curbing.

Jay,
I have never been able to split any AC element with an arc
or a polyline. Yet you say it can be done.
I sure would like to know how.

What you might be thinking of is using the magic wand to form a hole in a mesh, or create another mesh within a mesh, which is then used as SEO operator to subtract from the original. Does this make sense?
