Detail Library

I use the same details over and over and usually try and remember the latest and greatest job that has a similar detail then copy it into the new one, modify it etc. I would like to establish a detail library that I can draw from and would appreciate any advise on how to set one up.

This is an excellent article; kudos to Eric Bobrow for this.

I'm curious if anyone has found a good "filing" system for details. I've been using sort of a CSI system, but it's not ideal. (Where do you file shear transfer details that relate to both walls and floors?). It seems like maybe the Uniformat classification might work better, since it's dealing more with systems than individual items. Often a detail is a collection of a number of individual items and the detail could be filed under any of them.

Any other detail classification systems worth looking at?

This is our intent, however we haven't tested the system yet.
